Regular brushing will keep this hybrid looking and feeling well, and bathing is not recommended due to the sensitivity of their skin. However, this hybrid is not a hypoallergenic dog. The Doxie-Pin is a unique mix of the parents and a great addition to any family.īoth the Dachshund and the Miniature Pinscher are considered low to moderate shedders, and the Doxie-Pin will not shed much. The Dachshund breed standard was written in 1879, and this cute breed was first registered with the American Kennel Club in 1888. Documented in the 15th century in Germany, the French Basset Hound and some Terrier dogs are part of the ancestral mix. Bred to be long in the body in order to dig, the Dachshund was an excellent hunter of ground prey, such as badgers, hare, and foxes. Their name means badger dog and is based on the Dachshund’s preferred quarry, the badger. Originally bred to help with rat problems, today the Min-Pin is a regal-looking companion dog nicknamed the King of Toys. The Dachshund also comes from Germany. Detailed breeding records were kept starting in the 19th Century in Germany, and by 1929, the American Kennel Club recognized the Miniature Pinscher as a breed. Some believe the Min-Pin breed was crossbred with the Dachshund or Italian Greyhound. The Min-Pin is thought to be about 2,000 years old and developed from the German Pinscher. The Doberman Pinscher is a younger breed than the Min-Pin.

Both parent breeds have a long history and may be related to cross breeding in Germany. The Miniature Pinscher, Min-Pin for short, is not to be confused with the Doberman Pinscher, though the breed looks like a tiny replica of the Doberman. The hybrid is a modern breed and does not have a well-documented history outside of the parent breeds. The Doxie-Pin is a hybrid mix of the Dachshund and the Miniature Pinscher.
